Clear Couples AI Policy

How AI uses relationship information — and where we draw the line.

Clear Couples uses technology, including AI where implemented, to help turn relationship information into understandable and actionable insights. We believe you should be able to see what AI processes, why it processes it, how that information is handled, and what AI should never be relied upon to do.

What this page is

A description of the AI actually in Clear Couples today (October 3, 2026, version 1.0). It complements — and doesn’t replace — the Privacy Policy, the Terms of Service, and the rest of the Trust & Safety Center. Where something isn’t confirmed yet, this page says so instead of filling the gap.

AI at a glance

Six questions, answered directly. Each one links to the detail below.

How We Use AI

Three features in Clear Couples use AI. They’re listed here in full — if a feature isn’t on this list, it doesn’t use AI.

Deep Dive report

Couples module — on the Insights page

To turn your rating cycles into something you can actually use: patterns sitting underneath the scores, open-ended conversation starters, what’s going well, and one priority to focus on next.

When it runs: Only when you press “Generate My Report”. Nothing is generated automatically.

What it produces: A report shown on that page. It isn’t saved anywhere.

Coaching tips

Readiness module — on your dashboard

To suggest four practical tips based on the categories where you scored lowest and the growth areas already identified in your assessment.

When it runs: Only when you press “Generate My Coaching Tips”.

What it produces: Four short tips shown on your dashboard. They aren’t saved.

The in-app support guide

The chat bubble available inside the app

To answer questions about using Clear Couples and understanding your results.

When it runs: Only when you open the chat and send a message.

What it produces: A reply in the chat window. Conversation history is stored with your account.

  1. 1

    You ask

You press “Generate My Report”, “Generate My Coaching Tips”, or send a message in the support guide. Nothing happens before that.

  2. 2

    Clear Couples gathers the data

The scores, trends, gaps and priorities listed above. Your notes, goals, agreements and Readiness answers are left out.

  3. 3

The request goes to an AI service

A third-party AI service processes the request through the platform that hosts Clear Couples.

  4. 4

    The analysis comes back

The AI service returns an analysis — a report, coaching tips, or a chat reply.

  5. 5

Clear Couples shows it to you

It appears on your screen. Reports and tips aren’t stored; support guide conversations are kept as conversation history.

What isn’t AI

Your scores, category results, perception gaps, trends, streaks, reminders and progress charts are calculated with ordinary code — arithmetic and rules. When a number is computed, no AI model is involved. We’d rather be precise about that than call everything “AI”.

What Information Can AI Process?

Item by item, the information AI features can receive, why, and when. “No” means it is never part of an AI request.

  • Your cycle scores

    Used by AIYes
    Why

They’re the main input for a Deep Dive report.

    When
Only when you press “Generate My Report”.
  • Category and area scores

    Used by AIYes
    Why

So the report can see which parts of your relationship are strong or strained.

    When
Only when you press “Generate My Report”.
  • Trends over time

    Used by AIYes
    Why

Combined averages per area across your cycles, so patterns and repeating lows can be spotted.

    When
Only when you press “Generate My Report”.
  • Where you see things differently

    Used by AIYes
    Why

Your biggest perception gaps, so the report can point at the conversations worth having.

    When
Only when you press “Generate My Report”.
  • Top strengths and growth areas

    Used by AIYes
    Why

Already calculated from your results; they shape what the report celebrates and what it flags.

    When
Only when you press “Generate My Report”.
  • Your relationship’s name

    Used by AIYes
    Why

So the report can refer to your relationship naturally.

    When
Only when you press “Generate My Report”.
  • The priorities you ranked in your settings

    Used by AIYes
    Why

So the report leans toward what matters most to you rather than treating everything equally.

    When
Only when you press “Generate My Report”.
  • How many cycles you’ve completed

    Used by AIYes
    Why

So the report can judge whether there’s enough history to talk about a trend.

    When
Only when you press “Generate My Report”.
  • Notes you attach to a rating

    Used by AINo
    Why

Your notes are never part of an AI request.

    When
    Never.
  • Goals and their descriptions

    Used by AINo
    Why

Goals aren’t part of any AI feature.

    When
    Never.
  • Agreements and their text

    Used by AINo
    Why

Agreements aren’t part of any AI feature.

    When
    Never.
  • Your Readiness answers, question by question

    Used by AINo
    Why

Only the resulting scores, growth areas and stage are used — not your individual answers.

    When
    Never.
  • Your Readiness category scores

    Used by AIYes
    Why

They identify the weakest categories the coaching tips should address.

    When
Only when you press “Generate My Coaching Tips”.
  • Your Readiness growth areas

    Used by AIYes
    Why

They give the tips a direction.

    When
Only when you press “Generate My Coaching Tips”.
  • The stage you selected during Readiness onboarding

    Used by AIYes
    Why

So the tips match where you say you are — dating, engaged, preparing, and so on.

    When
Only when you press “Generate My Coaching Tips”.
  • Messages you type in the support guide

    Used by AIYes
    Why

The guide needs your question in order to answer it.

    When
Each time you send a message.
  • The name of the page you’re on

    Used by AIYes
    Why

So the guide gives page-relevant help instead of asking you what screen you’re looking at.

    When
When you open the chat and when you send a message.
  • Your name, email or photo

    Used by AINo
    Why

No AI feature receives your account details.

    When
    Never.
  • Counselor or professional information

    Used by AINo
    Why

No AI feature reads counselor or professional data.

    When
    Never.
  • Retreat information

    Used by AINo
    Why

No AI feature reads retreat or facilitator data.

    When
    Never.
  • Payment or subscription details

    Used by AINo
    Why

Payments are handled separately and are never part of an AI request.

    When
    Never.

The pattern behind the list

AI receives the numbers and labels it needs to do one job: scores, categories, trends, gaps, your priorities and your stage. It doesn’t receive your written reflections — not your rating notes, not your goals or agreements, and not your Readiness answers question by question.

Does My Information Train AI?

This question has two halves, and most products blur them together: what Clear Couples may do with your information, and what the AI service may do with it.

  • Can Clear Couples use my information to improve its AI?

    Yes

Yes — and we won’t soften it. The Privacy Policy states that data including relationship inputs, responses and usage behaviour may be used to improve the accuracy and relevance of insights, enhance algorithms and analytics, and develop, train and refine internal models and AI-driven features, using aggregated, anonymized or de-identified data where possible, and never in a way that publicly identifies you. That is the policy you accepted when you created your account.

  • Does Clear Couples train or fine-tune the models this app uses?

    No

No. The AI features send one request with the data listed above and display the reply. There is no training pipeline, no fine-tuning step, no embedding store and no separate AI memory attached to your relationship data in Clear Couples.

  • Can the AI service that processes my request train on it?

    Being confirmed

We can’t confirm this yet. Clear Couples doesn’t run the models itself — requests are handled by third-party AI services through the platform that hosts the app, and their own terms are not documented anywhere in the app. We are confirming this, and we will publish the answer rather than assume the comfortable one. We won’t say “no” until we can stand behind it.

The words people use for this — in plain language

Training a foundation model
Building a large general-purpose AI from huge amounts of data. Here: Not done by Clear Couples — the app doesn’t build or operate its own models.
Fine-tuning
Teaching an existing model using extra examples so it behaves differently. Here: Not done by Clear Couples.
Improving our own features
Using usage data to make the product and its internal models better. Here: Possible — this is the permission described in the Privacy Policy.
Evaluation and quality testing
Checking that outputs are accurate and safe. Here: We don’t publish a commitment about this yet — being confirmed.
Prompt and output review
A person reading what was sent to a model, or what came back. Here: Not possible for Deep Dive reports and coaching tips (never stored). Possible for support guide conversations (stored), by a limited number of administrators. The AI service side is being confirmed.
Product analytics
Counting how features are used — not AI training. Here: Covered by the Privacy Policy like other usage data.

How Long Is AI Information Kept?

What Clear Couples keeps, what we don’t, and where we genuinely can’t give you a number yet.

  • Deep Dive reports

    No

Not stored by Clear Couples. The report lives on the Insights page for as long as you stay on it; reloading or leaving clears it, and regenerating creates a new one.

  • Readiness coaching tips

    No

Not stored. Generated when you ask and shown on your dashboard for that visit only.

  • The relationship records used as input

    Yes

Kept as ordinary app records, because they’re your results — not because of AI. Their retention is governed by the Privacy Policy and by whether you keep the relationship or delete it.

  • Support guide conversations

    Partly

Stored with your account as conversation history, so the thread can be shown again. They follow the same deletion route as other account data. No separate retention period is published for them, and there is no in-app way to delete a single conversation today.

  • The AI request itself, at the AI service

    Being confirmed

Not documented in the app. We can’t state a retrieval or deletion period for a request once it leaves Clear Couples, and we will not publish a “deleted immediately” or “zero retention” claim we can’t verify. This is being confirmed with the platform.

  • Backups

    Being confirmed

We don’t publish backup schedules or backup retention periods, and we haven’t invented them here.

Why you’ll see gaps instead of guesses

Retention periods for third-party AI services and for backups aren’t documented anywhere we can cite, so this page leaves them marked as being confirmed. A confident-sounding number you can’t rely on would be worse than an honest gap. These answers are being confirmed and will be published when verified.

Can People Review My AI Information?

Who can reach your information, under what circumstances, and what simply isn’t reachable.

  • Clear Couples administrators

    Partly

A limited number of administrators can access app data as needed to operate and support the service. That includes stored records — your couple space, and your support guide conversations. It cannot include your Deep Dive report or coaching tips, because those are never written to storage.

  • When you contact support

    Conditional

We work from what you tell us and from stored records. We cannot pull up a report you generated, because there is no stored copy to pull up.

  • For quality, debugging or evaluation

    Being confirmed

We don’t publish a commitment about humans reviewing AI inputs or outputs for quality, debugging or evaluation, so we won’t claim one.

  • Staff of the AI service

    Being confirmed

Not documented, and being confirmed. We won’t write “no human ever sees your information” — that is a strong guarantee, and we can’t support it today.

  • Your partner or anyone else using Clear Couples

    No

No other user can open a report or coaching tips you generated. Your partner sees your underlying results exactly as before, and no more — see Privacy, Sharing & Consent.

  • Screenshots and anything you share

    Conditional

If you screenshot a report, or read it aloud in a session, that copy is outside our control and can’t be recalled.

Third-Party AI Providers

  • External AI technology is used

    Yes

Clear Couples doesn’t build or host its own AI models. AI requests are processed by third-party AI services, reached through the platform that hosts Clear Couples and also provides its database, sign-in and file storage.

  • What gets sent, and why

    Yes

Only the information in the matrix above, and only so the feature you asked for can work. For example, a Deep Dive request explains the job — analyse this couple’s assessment data and produce a report — and includes the data itself.

  • Retention, training and staff access at the AI service

    Being confirmed

Being confirmed. We don’t have a verified answer to publish yet, and we’d rather show you a gap than a guess.

  • What we don’t publish

    No

API keys, credentials, internal endpoints, security configuration and the specific model versions behind each feature. Those details don’t help you decide what to record, and publishing them would weaken security.

If you need provider-level detail for a review — for example a security or procurement questionnaire — email support@clearapplegroup.com and we’ll tell you what we can confirm.

What Clear Couples AI Will Not Do

These are product boundaries, stated so you can rely on the right help at the right time.

Clear Couples AI will not

  • Not included:Provide therapy or counseling
  • Not included:Replace a therapist, counselor or other professional
  • Not included:Diagnose mental-health conditions
  • Not included:Provide medical diagnoses or medical advice
  • Not included:Determine whether someone has a mental-health disorder
  • Not included:Provide emergency services
  • Not included:Provide crisis intervention
  • Not included:Guarantee relationship outcomes
  • Not included:Decide who is “right” or “wrong” in a relationship
  • Not included:Make major relationship decisions for you
  • Not included:Guarantee that an interpretation is correct

AI Can Be Wrong

Insights are generated from patterns in what was recorded. That makes them useful — and limited.

AI-generated insights may be

  • Not included:Incomplete — it only knows what was recorded in the app
  • Not included:Inaccurate — it can misread what it was given
  • Not included:Overly generalized — advice can read like it was written for everyone
  • Not included:Missing context — it doesn’t know your history, culture or circumstances
  • Not included:A poor fit for your situation — what’s reasonable advice for one couple may be wrong for another

Treat them as information to consider

Not as authoritative facts about your relationship. Read an insight, notice what rings true, and let the parts that don’t fit go — you know your relationship better than any pattern in a dataset.

AI Doesn’t Replace Human Expertise

AI and a trained professional do different jobs, and Clear Couples is built to sit alongside professional support rather than replace it.

What Clear Couples AI can help you do

  • Included:Organising what you’ve already noticed
  • Included:Spotting patterns across your check-ins
  • Included:Making your results easier to understand
  • Included:Naming possible topics to discuss together
  • Included:Tracking how things change over time

What a counselor or therapist brings

  • Included:Human judgement about your specific situation
  • Included:Personalized guidance built on training and experience
  • Included:Clinical expertise where a clinical question exists
  • Included:Context that no app can gather from scores
  • Included:Accountability and support when the work gets hard

For anything that needs clinical judgement — trauma, addiction, mental-health concerns, active conflict, separation — a licensed professional is the right resource. Plenty of couples use Clear Couples between sessions and bring their results into the room.

How Clear Couples works with professionals

AI Doesn’t Change Your Sharing Rules

Two different things that get confused: what AI processes, and who can see your information.

Generating an AI report doesn’t publish anything. The report appears on your screen and isn’t stored, written into your couple space, or sent to a counselor. Your sharing rules are unchanged: a counselor you link can still see your relationship’s ratings, cycles, goals and trends, and your partner still sees your couple space — exactly as described on the privacy page. AI neither widens nor narrows any of that. The one thing outside our control is anything you choose to share yourself — a screenshot, or a report read aloud in a session.

Privacy, Sharing & Consent

Your Choices & Controls

What you can actually decide, including where the honest answer is “nothing to switch off”.

  • Nothing runs unless you ask

Both AI features wait for a button press — “Generate My Report” or “Generate My Coaching Tips”. The support guide only sees what you type into it. No AI runs in the background while you use Clear Couples.

  • You can decline AI entirely

If you don’t want AI involved, don’t press generate. Your scores, gaps, trends, goals, agreements, reminders and progress tracking don’t depend on AI and work without it.

  • There is no separate AI opt-out switch

Because AI here is opted into per request, there is nothing to switch off. We aren’t going to imply a control that doesn’t exist — this is the honest version.

  • You acknowledge insights before you see them

Before you first open insights, Clear Couples asks you to accept that they aren’t definitive conclusions, may not reflect your full context, support awareness rather than verdicts, and don’t replace professional advice. Your acceptance is recorded with a version and a timestamp.

  • You choose what you type into the support guide

The guide stores your conversation history with your account. Treat it like a chat that’s saved, and don’t type anything you wouldn’t want kept.

  • Sharing and access stay under your control

Linking a counselor, leaving a relationship, deleting a relationship and your retreat privacy level all work exactly as described in Privacy, Sharing & Consent. AI doesn’t change any of them.

  • Deleting AI-related information

There’s nothing to delete for reports and tips, because they were never stored. Support guide conversations are deleted as part of an account data request — email support.

AI Is Not an Emergency Service

No AI feature in Clear Couples is designed for crisis intervention or emergency response, and nobody is monitoring what you record.

If there is an immediate safety concern

Contact one of these services directly. They’re staffed by people trained for exactly this — not by an app.
  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

If you don’t feel safe using a shared tool

If you’re afraid of retaliation, surveillance, coercive control or harm from a partner seeing what you record, a shared relationship platform may not be the right tool for your situation. Please don’t confront anyone about it — contact a support service instead and let them help you plan. You can read more on our safety page.

Changes to This AI Policy

Last updated: October 3, 2026 · Version 1.0

How this page stays current

  • Included:If we add an AI feature, change what is sent to an AI service, or confirm one of the answers marked above, we update this page and the last-updated date.
  • Included:Updating this page does not change how the app works. AI behaviour changes only through a deliberate change to the app itself.
  • Included:Material changes to how AI data is handled should always be reflected here — that is the point of keeping this page public.

Questions About AI & Your Data?

Email support@clearapplegroup.com with your question. If it’s about something this page doesn’t answer, tell us — that’s usually a sign the page should say more.

One more thing

This page describes the AI in the app. It doesn’t create new rights or promises about AI, and it doesn’t change the Privacy Policy or the Terms of Service — those remain the full legal versions.

The legal details

This Center explains our practices in plain language. It doesn’t replace the legal documents — the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service stay the complete and authoritative versions.
